Expedition: the S-tier divine farm
Grand Expedition is the top raw-currency farm in 0.5.4 (10-20 div/hr reported). You blow up ancient Kalguuran sites, trade artifacts to four vendors, and bulk-sell Liquid Verisium. It runs solo, not in a combo. All node and tablet text is poe2db-confirmed.
How Expedition works
Expeditions are Kalguuran burial sites. You place a chain of explosives, then detonate to unearth Verisium Remnants, chests and monsters. The core rule: a Remnant applies its modifier to every monster and chest excavated by the same explosive that destroys it, and to all subsequent unearthed monsters and chests. Blowing up more Remnants in one chain makes the dig harder but far more rewarding.
Grand Expedition & Logbooks
dropped by Runic Monsters are used on the Atlas to reveal Grand Expeditions in Ocean Biomes: much larger digs with more explosives, special Remnants and bonus reward modifiers. This is the endgame farm. Logbook / Grand Expedition modifiers (poe2db) push the payout:
- All Verisium Remnants have at least 5 / 6 / 7 Rune slots (more mods per Remnant).
- +1 Verisium Remnant with at least 7 / 8 / 9 Rune slots.
- Area contains +(1-3) Verisium Remnants; a Remnant contains a Power Rune.
- +(25-50)% number of Explosives / Explosive Radius / Placement Range.
- Monsters from Remnants drop +(25-50)% Verisium.
The 0.5.3 reward rework removed the basic Weapon / Armour chests and replaced them with Currency / Unique / Waystone chests, and the max number of Remnants now scales with Waystone Tier (most at T15+). So always run Grand Expeditions on high-tier maps.
Aldur's Saga: the high-end meta
is the item the top Expedition farmers (Fubgun) build around, worth roughly ~46 div each. Keep one in your inventory and right-click to activate it, then reveal a Grand Expedition: the Saga forces guaranteed rune-slot modifiers on the area. The rolls you want are the “all Remnants have at least 5 / 6 / 7 rune slots” ones (the “all-fives / all-sixes / all-sevens”). Without a Saga, a Grand Expedition just rolls regular, much weaker modifiers.
- Find an island with several rumors. Use the Saga on rumors that do NOT contain a boss: a boss / unique rumor turns the tile into a boss map and eats an Expedition. Aim for 4 non-boss rumors so you get 4 guaranteed Grand Expeditions.
- Inventory-shuffle to re-roll the rumors. Moving any item in your inventory refreshes the rumor names shown on the island. Shuffle until you see a good set (up to ~6 rumors / ~10 expeditions), then activate the Saga.
- Self-sustain. If you average 5+ expeditions per Saga, the Logbooks and Verisium you find pay for the next one. Fubgun runs it for days without buying a single Saga.
The four vendors (turn artifacts into currency)
Runic Monsters drop faction Artifacts. Trade them at the matching vendor:
| Vendor | Artifact | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Tujen | Black Scythe | Haggle for raw currency (jewellery / belts). The main money vendor. |
| Gwennen | Broken Circle | Gamble unidentified bases (weapons / foci / quivers) for Uniques. |
| Rog | Order | Step-by-step crafting on armours / shields. |
| Dannig | Sun | Runic magic and logbook services. |
You can now spend currency straight from your stash at these vendors. Tujen haggling is the low-effort currency printer; Gwennen is the gamble for unique jackpots.
Runes of Aldur (what sells)
Verisium is the league currency, and (unlocked at Farrow via the Feeling Lucky? node) instantly starts a Runic Remnant encounter and is bulk-sellable. Beyond raw currency, the valuable drops are the Kalguuran Runes, which sell to crafters without you needing to craft anything:
- : +1 allowed suffix on the item. : +1 crafted modifier.
- : turns Glove augment sockets into a Jewel socket.
- : destroys a socketed Unique Kalguuran / Ezomyte item to create a Rune with its power.
- The Aldur weapon-conversion runes (Passion / Breath / Ire / Betrayal) and the “can roll X modifiers” runes (Thrud's Might, Medved's Tending, etc.).
Note: the Forgotten By Time tablet is temporarily disabled from dropping, and Expedition is disabled on Standard during Runes of Aldur. For the crafting mechanics themselves see /crafting/reference.
The 24-node Expedition Atlas tree
A dedicated subtree (24 nodes, 12 notables), unlocked through the Grand Expedition questline. Points come from Runic Books of Knowledge (2 each) and Grand Expedition boss kills. Exact node text from poe2db:
- Feeling Lucky?: Farrow sells Liquid Verisium for Verisium (the reroll + bulk-sell engine).
- Steady Development: add an extra Explosive or Verisium Remnant (multichoice). Expanding Territory: +25% Expedition chance or 10% extra Remnant.
- Logbook Chance (+5% Logbook quantity, ×12) and Sown Seeds (Runic Monsters +50% Logbook chance per Runic Modifier): Logbook sustain for Grand Expeditions.
- Gaining Traction: Verisium Remnants have +50% Monster Rarity per Remnant completed in the area (compounds through the dig).
- Double or Nothing: Remnants have a 25% chance to add an extra Runic Modifier to future Remnants (more mods = more reward).
- The Quest Continues: Grand Expeditions may have up to 3 modifiers and +1 area level.
- Calculated Investment (multichoice): +1% Item Quantity per Runic Modifier, or +5% XP per Runic Modifier, or Remnants count as Power-Rune affected.
- Strategic Advantage: explosives only wait for 50% of monsters slain (faster chains); Runic Monsters spawn missing 20% Life.
Juicing: exact tablet text
Expedition Tablets add a Kalguuran Expedition; the suffixes (poe2db) scale it. Run 3 (this mechanic does not share slots):
- of Knowledge: +15-30% Logbook quantity (feeds Grand Expeditions).
- of Ancient Fiends: +25-40% number of Rare Expedition Monsters.
- of Verisium: +15-30% quantity of Artifacts dropped.
- of the Writings: Expeditions +(1-2) Remnants. of Relics: +12-18% Remnant effect.
- of the Demolition / of the Detonator: +15-30% Explosive Radius / Placement Range (hit more Remnants per chain).
For the Aldur's Saga farm, Fubgun runs 3 “+1” tablets (each with two additional random map modifiers, the key stat) plus one strong prefix (increased Rare Monster count or Monster Effectiveness are best). Only invest in 3-mod tablets if your Sagas are all-6 / all-7; do not overpay (~10 div for a 2-mod, 12-15 for a 3-mod).
Running the dig: runes & rerolls
Inside a Grand Expedition the runes on each Remnant decide your loot. Two rules run everything:
- The golden-slot rune proliferates: it stays active for every later Expedition in the map. The other runes only count for their own Remnant. So the golden slot is what matters most.
- Purple runes = value, blue runes = ignore (Rebirth is the one good blue). Runes do not stack, so a duplicate rune is a wasted slot: reroll it.
- Opulent (the golden rune, +Monster Rarity): the S-tier rune, it roughly doubles your loot. Rush toward any Remnant that has it if your explosives can reach.
- Then Power (proliferates loot, the main divine driver), Death, Bond, Oath, plus Time and Rebirth. Ideal round: land Power + Death + Bond + Oath + Opulence in your first five runes, then proliferate them into the 8-9 slot Remnants.
Each Remnant previews its reward and its golden-slot rune before you commit. If the golden slot has no good purple rune, or the reward is below your floor (for example 3 Greater Chaos is about 1 divine), reroll that Remnant with a . Buy Liquid Verisium from Farrow with banked Verisium (unlocked by the Feeling Lucky? node), or self-sustain it from drops. Reroll duplicates and blue-only Remnants every time.
You get a limited number of explosives (~15-22). With more, detour to grab the Opulent and high-slot Remnants; with fewer, path straight to the best ones and skip the rest. An increased Placement Range map modifier lets you reach further. Watch the map mods: Vaal-relic maps are strong but can make monsters immune to a damage type, so never take immune to your main damage.
Rarely, an Expedition boss drops Rune Secrets Call (a ~900-divine quest item, once per character), so kill bosses when you see them.
The farming loop
- Atlas & Master: Jado (Fubgun's pick over Doryani), plus the Expedition tree (Feeling Lucky? for Liquid Verisium, Logbook sustain, and Calculated Investment set to quantity per Runic Modifier).
- Waystone: T15 is enough (the Grand Expedition node adds +1 area level, so you hit area 81 and drop area-82 bases). Ignore Pack Size, it does nothing for Expedition loot. Cheapest option: self-craft a 6-mod 70%-quality waystone (Omens of Chaotic Monsters / Quantity / Rarity) and corrupt it.
- Activate an on 4 non-boss rumors (inventory-shuffle first for a good set), open the Grand Expeditions, and run each dig for the Opulent / Power runes.
- Cash out: haggle artifacts at Tujen for raw currency, gamble spare Broken Circle at Gwennen, bulk-sell Liquid Verisium and valuable Runes.
Faction bosses gate the pinnacle: Medved, Uhtred and Vorana lead to Olroth, Origin of the Fall, who drops , , Olroth's Resolve, and .
